Hitting The Breaks In Two Beats | January 24, 2009

We've talked about lots of differents ways to hit the breaks. But what it comes down to is that most of the time (until we get really musical) we don't realize the break is there until it's almost too late. Well, lets talk about that. And ladies, I'll give you a way to hit the break (without messing up your man's plan).

Time for new pattern I've found out on the National Competition Circuit.  The let's add a couple of new easy Basic and Whip patterns to make it all REALLY fun!!! On January 31, at Cypress Dance Studio from 8:00-9:00PM.

Rodeo Workshop and Dance | February 6, 2009

Come join us at the Singles Rodeo Dance on Friday, February 6, 2009 at Chaplewood United Methodist Church. There will be a FREE polka lesson featuring yours turely (Michael Stephens), with dancing, food and a variety of great music. The workshop will be held from 7:00 - 8:15 pm, and the dance follows from 8:15 - 11:00 pm. Admission is only $10 and all proceeds benefit students with amazing potential. Valentine's Slow Dancing for the Romance of It | February 14, 2009

Don’t you just hate standing there at ANY party and not really know how to handle the really slow music? So, here’s our first chance of the year to get ready to impress, well, gosh, at this point we be happy to just impress us and our dates. But wouldn’t it be nice to have figured it out a little better. I say YES!!!

Spin Workshop: Spin Your Circles in Straight Lines | February 28, 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen: Lend me you ears (uh, feet). The girls AND the guys are going to spin a little faster, longer, and straighter. It’s time to come out of the double-pike reverse and stick it… (Wait, that’s gymnastics.) It’s time to start it sooner, spin it stronger, and stick-it harder. We’ll see you there.

WCS - Make the Most of Your Basic 6-beat Patterns | March 28, 2009

If you know you're Sugar Push, Left Side Pass, and Underarm Turn, you're ready for this class. If you are more advanced and don't know how to turn your 3 basic patterns into 21, this class is for you. It's logical and easy to remember. It's my Level 7 class. So, everyone can learn from this. These are still basic patterns, but they look and feel different.

If you're a beginner, this class is for you.

We're gearing up for an Advanced Workshop. So, come to this workshop and get yourself ready. We're working on the latest two moves I saw while competing in Chicago. There's on cool easy one, and one cool more difficult one. And as usual, I'll be talking about technique, technique, and technique.

We're gearing up for an Advanced Monthly Workshop in the Clear Lake area. So, come to this workshop and get yourself ready. We're working on two moves a couple of us worked while I was in Chicago. There's one cool easy one that requires subtlety in lead AND follow, and one cool more difficult one. And as usual, I'll be talking about technique, technique, and technique.

We’ll review the basic 6-beat patterns and then take a fun step further – of course talking about some technique.  And yes, we’re using the same logic to help the men remember.  Oh, AND for the ladies, we’re going to add some flair.  We’ll even take some time for musicality – start learning it now (it’ll make the dance even more fun).

Multiple and Illusion Spins Workshop | May 9, 2009

This Workshop IS for the serious student!!! We will specifically be working on multiple Clockwise (reverse) spins using a COOL illusions lead. Of course, the ladies will be spinning. BUT... men - you HAVE to learn how to lead the Illusion well. And as always, I'll want the men to spin also. The Illusion spin is used in WCS AND C&W. So we'll talk a simple pattern that can be used in both dances to get us to the Illusion.

Quick Draw/Level-16 Two-Step Pattern Workshop | June 20, 2009

We have got a cool pattern with a couple of different endings.  As you know, my style is to work on the coolness of the man, the flair of the woman, and the technique of both.  So step into our Quick Draw level.  AND, don’t be afraid to ask questions about how to tell the difference between your new Quick Draw pattern and similar patterns.

Jimmy Buffett's Riding the Waves Workshop | June 27, 2009

It’s that time of year again.  It’s summer; it’s hot; it’s time for a party.  Oh, and we’ll learn more about slowing down WCS patterns to play with the music.  We’ll dress up in our least scary beachwear; we’ll learn a new pattern; we’ll snack and drink (even Margaritas); we’ll learn an old pattern again and slow it down; we’ll snack and drink some more; we’ll practice; and, of course, we’ll snack and drink some more.
